This large family room had our client stumped.  She was wondering how to make the most of every inch of their expansive space, and make it cozy and inviting, at the same time.  They have tall sons, and everyone needed a spot to stretch out and be together comfortably.

Her space is modern with soaring windows, and a black flat metal clad fireplace.  These elements set the tone for an edited and sculptural space.  We opted to use three sofas, instead of a sectional to keep access to the seating area open from multiple entry points.
A long, slim console table behind one of the sofas is the perfect place for setting up a serving or beverage station.
A taller lounge chair near the fireplace adds vertical balance to the fireplace.

The sofas that face each other are upholstered in the same fabric and the sofa facing the fireplace is in a contrasting, darker fabric.
A generous area rug adds coziness for the fireplace-oriented, seating grouping.
In the dining area alcove, a pair of chairs tuckes into the recess and offers a comfortable spot to enjoy the view of the wooded back yard.  A smaller, custom-sized area rug there unites the upholstered pieces, and adds coziness against all the glass.
