Small spaces have a way of asking more from us.
They need to work hard. They need to feel intentional. And maybe most importantly—they need to feel special.
This powder room, tucked into a remodel we’re working on, is just about 4 feet by 5 feet. No windows. No borrowed light. Just a small footprint that could easily feel like an afterthought… but instead, we saw an opportunity.
We wanted this space to feel like a moment.

Letting the Walls Do the Talking
Because the room is windowless, we leaned into a beautiful botanical mural to create depth and movement. Instead of fighting the lack of natural light, we embraced it—using the mural to visually transport you somewhere else entirely.
It’s layered, organic, and just a little bit unexpected. The kind of backdrop that makes you pause for a second when you walk in.
In a small space, scale matters—but so does confidence. Going bold here is exactly what makes the room feel expansive rather than confined.
Grounding the Space with Warmth + Texture
To balance the movement of the mural, we brought in a compact reeded vanity with warm wood tones and a clean marble top. The vertical lines add subtle texture without competing, and the smaller scale keeps everything feeling open and easy to navigate.
Every inch matters in a room this size, so choosing pieces that are both functional and visually light is key.
A Mirror That Feels Like a Find
The vintage-inspired mirror adds just the right amount of personality.
It’s not too perfect, not too polished—and that’s exactly the point. In a space like this, those slightly unexpected pieces are what make it feel personal instead of predictable. It feels like something you’ve collected, not just selected.
Thoughtful Details That Make It Work
Even in a small space, the details matter—maybe even more.
We kept things simple and functional with an easy-to-use single handle faucet, perfect for everyday use and guests alike. A compact waste basket tucks neatly out of the way, and soft, luxurious towels add that final layer of comfort.
Even a simple, soap dispenser can be an opportunity to add texture and interest. This one has gold and cream finishes.
Nothing fussy. Just thoughtful.
Why Small Spaces Deserve Big Design
There’s something about a powder room that gives you permission to take a little risk. It doesn’t have to match the rest of the house perfectly. It can be a little moodier, a little more layered, a little more fun.
And when it’s done well, it becomes one of those spaces people remember.
This one feels like a jewel box—rich, inviting, and completely transportive. Proof that even the smallest rooms can hold some of the biggest design moments.
