This cozy Wisconsin entryway may be compact, but it needed to do some heavy lifting. With snowy boots to shed, guests to greet, and a family always on the go, our clients asked us for a solution that brought in more light, helped them stay organized, and softened some of the home’s original layout quirks—like the tricky handrail placement.
The first move? A clean-lined mirror with sculptural presence. Centered beneath the stair rail, it reflects natural light from the narrow window behind it, doubling the sense of space and giving everyone a chance for a quick once-over before heading out. Their existing, wood cabinet grounds the space and adds closed storage for hats, gloves, and seasonal odds and ends.
Since function was key, we brought in a textural and washable area rug to catch wet footprints, and paired it with a woven, leather cube that works overtime as extra seating or a place to drop bags. A vintage, leather chair adds warmth and a unique, welcoming spot to sit and tug off snow boots without a scramble. And those slender, glowing lamps? They frame the mirror, brighten the room, and elevate the whole feel—because utility and beauty should go hand in hand.
Even the awkward handrail became a design opportunity. By visually anchoring the vignette beneath it with art and greenery, we created a balanced, layered look that makes the most of every inch.
It’s proof that even the smallest spaces can feel intentional, beautiful, and uniquely yours—with just a little thoughtful planning.
