The client had been living and working overseas for years, and they were ready to come back to their home that had been rented out, in their absence.  They knew the house would need updating, and they loved the idea of having the work completed before they returned.

So, when they reach out to Nest, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.  They were open and trusting, and when we presented the concept, the project took off from there.

The kitchen was dark and dated and a bit damaged.  It just look tired and time-worn.

The kitchen had a workable layout, but we were hoping for much more light and work surface, in the new design.

A typical kitchen of this home's era, the laminate countertops and oak floors and cabinetry are all matte in finish, and lack distinction between surfaces.

We got to work demolishing the old backsplash and counter tops, in anticipation of  the new elements being installed.  The floors were worn, and the client wanted to extend the wood floor into the adjacent family room. By deepening the new finish on the floors, we would be able to create some contrast between the floor and all of the other existing woodwork.

Layering in fresh and lighter-toned surfaces started with Taj Mahal quartzite countertops tonal paint for all of the cabinetry and brass detailing for plumbing and light fixtures.

With warm and cool toned marble tile for the backsplash, we were able to "marry" the newer, cooler tones with the oak trim work, which was going to remain in the rest of the house.

Lightweight but comfortable counter stools give this expanded countertop area a sit-and-stay-awhile feeling.

Removed an awkward, angled corner cabinet and replaced it with two extended, open shelves to activate this wall more fully.  The larger floating shelves provide a beautiful spot for displaying and storing every day items.

When the client arrived back in the United States, they loved their new kitchen, and were able to quickly get settled into their new spaces.
