Living room feeling just a little off? Everything is just okay, but it’s not quite working the way you know it could. Let's make room for more family, more friends, and so much more fun in this key gathering space.
Generous footprint, great natural light and a symmetrical fireplace are all assets in this space. The recesses on either side of the fireplace create some awkward corners, and the traffic flow is challenging. Rolling up our sleeves, we created four options that we think optimize all the best qualities of this space.
Option One adds a large sectional for the whole family to pile on for movie nights. Two swivel accent chairs can be oriented to maximize window views while also being able to face the fireplace or TV. A classic large coffee table and an ottoman tucked underneath adds extra seating for game nights.
Option Two features two smaller sofas and add versatility and flow to this space. Multiple ottomans add flexible, extra seating for when needed. A television console by the fireplace adds storage for games, puzzles, and throw blankets.
Option Three offers maximum storage and adaptability. With storage on either side of fireplace, a console behind the sofa and storage end tables, this room supports all kinds of games, puzzles and toys. A large console table behind one of the sofas gives the option to have a desk space or an impromptu bar set-up for entertaining when friends are over. A large rug defines the space, adds softness and enhances the symmetry of the space. Multiple ottomans give ample seating while also doubling as a surface to set down a tray.
Option Four is traditional with a twist. A pair of comfortable, generous sofas and a pair of sculptural swivel chairs are oriented to the fireplace and accentuates the architecture. An occasional chair is pulled up to the fireplace, and offers balance against the visual "softness" of the large, upholstered items. Every seat is served with a surface to put down a glass or mug, and a nearby light for reading. A large area rug defines the grouping within the larger space.
