This dining room in an historic home had languished recently, and was mostly used for incoming packages and piles of mail. It was time for it to live up to its potential!

In this elegant dining room tucked inside an urban townhouse, every element now nods to the grace of its historic roots while embracing fresh, contemporary refinement. Towering ceilings and detailed millwork frame the space with architectural grandeur, allowing each new, curated layer of design to breathe and belong.

The room's showstoppers—vintage-inspired pendant light fixtures—set the tone for the new space, and hang like sculptural art from the ceiling, drawing the eye upward and celebrating the home’s vertical scale. Their softly ribbed silhouettes cast a warm, diffused glow that makes every meal feel like an occasion. Positioned over a sleek marble-topped dining table, these pendants strike the perfect balance between nostalgia and modern luxury.

Rich in contrast, the glossy custom black and gold sideboard anchors one wall, offering both beauty and utility. Above it, a large abstract piece adds a contemporary counterpoint, infusing the room with movement and mood. Floor-to-ceiling drapery—patterned with a delicate, nature-inspired motif—softens the room and filters sunlight through original paned windows, subtly connecting indoors with the city’s seasonal shifts just beyond the glass.

The client's existing artwork now has pride of place over the sideboard, and injects the room with their personal style.

Warmth is further woven in through curated vintage accessories and a fresh, exuberant floral arrangement in rust and amber tones—a nod to fall in the city. The overall palette is grounded yet refined: ivory and black, layered with natural textures and touches of brass that catch the light just so.

This dining room is a testament to what happens when historic charm meets modern function. It’s a place where family dinners linger, conversations gently echo in the high ceilings, and the beauty of the past is honored in every thoughtful detail.
