Every home has that one space with untapped potential — and for this long-time client, it was the porch. It had great bones and beautiful views, but it just wasn’t functional for how their family lived. Too small for gatherings and too exposed for comfort, it often sat empty — except for the occasional summer dinner when the weather was perfect.

We knew this space could be so much more.

Expanding the Possibilities

Our clients dreamed of a porch that could do it all: a cozy spot to watch football with family and friends, a comfortable place for extended family to gather for meals, and an inviting space that blurs the line between indoors and out.

So, we rolled up our sleeves and got creative — reworking the footprint just enough to make the layout feel generous and purposeful without losing the connection to the outdoors. The goal was to add comfort and functionality, but keep the easygoing, natural feel that makes a porch so special.

The Design Plan

We created distinct zones within the new layout to make the most of every square foot:

  • A conversation area with deep seating and plenty of texture for game day lounging or quiet mornings with coffee.

  • A bar and TV wall, complete with counter seating and open shelves — the perfect setup for snacks, cocktails, and cheering on the home team.

  • A built-in dining nook, where Sunday dinners and card games can unfold with ease, surrounded by windows and sunlight.

The materials were chosen for comfort and longevity — easy-care fabrics, warm woods, and natural textures that can handle a little weather and a lot of family time. We mixed patterns and finishes to give the space that layered, lived-in feel our clients love.

Before + After

The “before” space was charming but limited — dark wood, heavy furniture, and not quite enough room to gather comfortably. The “after” is bright, inviting, and truly part of the home’s everyday life. It’s a place where family and friends can linger, where football season feels like a reason to celebrate, and where the beauty of Wisconsin’s changing seasons is always just beyond the glass.

This porch is now the indoor/outdoor heart of their home — and we couldn’t be happier for this wonderful family to finally enjoy it to the fullest.
