There’s something about a hallway that quietly asks to be more than just a pass-through.
In this historic home, the bones were already beautiful—but the family living here is young, busy, and anything but formal. They didn’t want a space that felt preserved or precious. They wanted something that felt like them—collected, layered, and full of life.

So instead of playing it safe… we went for it.
Start With What You Have (and Actually Use It)
The foundation of this gallery wall is the client’s own artwork—pieces they’ve collected over time, some
meaningful, some just loved.
We didn’t over-edit.
We didn’t try to make everything match.
We let the mix be the magic.
A few new pieces were layered in to round things out—filling gaps in scale, tone, and subject matter—but nothing feels overly curated. That’s the point.
It’s personal. A little unexpected. And way more interesting because of it.
The Secret Ingredient: A Unifying Backdrop
The soft blue paneling does a lot of heavy lifting here.
It gives the entire collection a calm, cohesive foundation—so even though the frames vary (warm woods, golds, light neutrals) and the artwork spans different styles and eras, everything feels connected.
It’s proof that you don’t need everything to match—you just need something that holds it all together.
Imperfect Spacing Is the Point
If you’re waiting for a perfect plan before you hang your gallery wall… this is your sign to stop waiting.
We didn’t map every inch.
We didn’t measure obsessively.
We adjusted as we went—letting the wall evolve piece by piece.
And honestly? That’s why it works.
The slight irregularity gives it movement. It feels collected over time, not installed in an afternoon (even if it was).
Historic Doesn’t Have to Mean Stuffy
One of our favorite things about this project is how it honors the home without feeling locked in the past.
The traditional architecture is still there.
The paneling adds depth and history.
But the gallery wall brings in energy, personality, and a sense of ease that makes the whole space feel alive.
This is how you make an older home feel current—without stripping away what makes it special.
If You’ve Been Overthinking Your Gallery Wall…
Let this be your permission slip:
• Mix frames
• Combine old and new
• Hang the piece you love—even if it doesn’t “match”
• Stop before it feels too perfect
The best gallery walls aren’t designed to impress.
They’re designed to feel like home.
