Updated, Colorful Traditional Family Room!

Love traditional design, but wanting it to feel classic AND fresh and updated?  Look no more!  By mixing more modern silhouettes with classic textures and finishes, we can give our clients a space that feels like it has a soul.

This elegant and clean sofa still feels cozy with taupe-y velvet and elegant, tapered delicate legs.  The scale of the legs make this piece feel right at home with antiques and more modern furniture pieces.

This hand-knotted wool rug is a stunner in smoky grays, minty greens and mushroom browns.  With its hand-knotted construction, this rug is built to last for generations.  Equally gorgeous paired with everything from washed oak to walnut hardwood floors.  With the mix of warm and cool-toned neutrals, this rug is a beautiful spring board for the rest of the den's selections.

Window pane plaid chair

The ultimate lounge chair for a traditional space is one that is super comfortable, but does not have a giant "footprint", meaning that it doesn't take up lots of floor space.  Finding a chair that is in proportion with antiques or inherited family pieces is not always easy, but this Heidi chair pairs solid, American-made quality with a larger-scaled window pane plaid to keep the piece feeling new, and at home in any space.

Benjamin Moore 2123-20 Caribbean Teal

Benjamin Moore Caribbean Teal 2123-20 is the perfect, smoky backdrop for wood tones and artwork.

Landscape paintings have been a classic choice for centuries for a reason!  A landscape painting has the ability to extend our sight line through the painting onto the horizon that has been captured in the artwork.  By extending our sight line, a beautifully executed landscape painting has the ability to make every space feel just a bit bigger.  With a square format, instead of the expected, rectangular one, the painting feels more modern.

Often a traditional space can feel a bit stuffy and overcrowded because it is layered with smaller-scaled pieces.  By introducing fewer, more generously-scaled pieces, the room is infuse a modern, updated twist.  This burled wood, coffee table is the perfect solution!

With a classic, but simplified urn shape, this lamp won't overpower more traditionally-scaled end tables.  The mercury glass construction is a beautifully reflective addition to the textures of any room.

With a shagreen texture typically found on antique boxes, this table applies the vintage texture in a much larger-scale.  By cladding the entire table in it, and pairing it with a walnut, mitered wood veneered top, there is a wonderful, unexpected play on classic, but reinvented textures.

Would you like to partner with our design team to create a "traditional-with-a-twist" space in your home?
